Dua Lipa showcases empowerment in her new single

A review of Lipa’s song “New Rules”

Analisa Jeffries
Co-Editor-in-Chief
Talk about girl power. Dua Lipa’s song New Rules, #DuasNewRules, encompases all of the rules that she and other girls should follow when dealing with certain men. There are always players that will try and get girls under their spell. Lipa sings that she should not pick up the phone when he calls, and she should not let him in when he wants. Those out there going through tough situations with a significant other can find a safe haven in this song, and they can know someone else is going through the same thing.

The music video shows a group of beautiful girls with different races and different body types coming together to help their friend stay strong against the players. It projects unity and strength among girls, which is a great message that should be sent to younger children, as well.

Dua Lipa’s transition from a broken hearted girl to a powerful woman ready to take on the world is shown in the video through the use of clothing and hairstyles. At first she wears loose clothing and has messy hair, and by the end she has a tight outfit with sleek hair. Lipa has overcome the challenges in her life and she is ready to help the next girl whose heart is broken.
